Diamond has always had a crush on Spike. Ever since he and Twilight arrived in Ponyville she thought he was ridiculously handsome and interesting to boot. 
But her family is monied. She's certain she'd be cast away if she pursued him and she doesn't think he'd like her at all.
In truth, Spike did not like her. Who would? She was a terrible bully to three fillies Spike cared about. 

However over time, Tiara cleaned up her act. What's illustrated above was her first attempt.
